What is a Dermaroller?
The Dermaroller is a device used in the microneedling procedure. Also called collagen induction therapy, microneedling is a medical treatment in which really fine clusters of needles are stamped or rolled across the surface of the skin. They are just deep enough to reach the dermal layer of skin where they create tiny wounds, inducing the skin to start the healing process. That process replaces injured cells with fresh, rejuvenated skin cells and encourages collagen production. The ingredient of collagen is well known for making one look younger.
The Dermaroller and Skin Tones
How will the Dermaroller work with your specific skin color? The Dermaroller works on all skin tones. It is not affected by pale skin or dark tones. This procedure is non-ablative, meaning it leaves the epidermis (top layer) of the skin unharmed. The cells that produce our skin color are produced in the outer layer of skin. Because microneedling targets only the dermis, it won’t affect the outer layer.
For anyone with very pale skin or someone with darker skin color, seeking treatment can be problematic. Other procedures using chemical peels or light-based laser procedures can result in very blotchy skin or injuries such as burns. You don't have to worry about that with the Dermaroller.
Treatment and Recovery Time
As with all types of skin care treatments, the specific problem and the area being treated determine how long the procedure will be. A large area will certainly take more time than a small patch of skin and a mild problem will be shorter than a deep treatment. Another factor is pain tolerance. Some people require a numbing agent be applied topically to the area before the procedure can start. It can take as little as twenty minutes or well over an area in the clinic.
Recovery time is a different matter. Because no damage is caused to the surface of your skin and the method is not abrasive, there is little to no recovery time. The only side effects you might experience are some redness in the treated area and possibly some swelling, both of which disappear in a day or two. More intensive treatments might take several days.
It's All About Results
Your reason for seeking treatment is that you want noticeable results and that is what you will receive with a Dermaroller method. Most people see mild results the next day. It does take a little bit of time to see the full effect. Other procedures exist with more immediate results and those who have used laser equipment before know this, but they don't work with all complexions and each comes with risks and significant side effects. Considering those factors, it makes the Dermaroller treatment a much better choice.
